The short version
Tech Knows You stores no personal data and runs no accounts and no analytics. The one page with ads — the landing page — lets Google serve ads; personalised ads, and the data processing behind them, run only with your consent — decline and only non-personalised ads (picked from context and rough geography) appear. If you email the letters desk, your email is handled like mail, not like data. This policy explains all three honestly.
1. Who we are
Tech Knows You (“we”, “us”) operates the website at techknowsyou.com. We are the data controller for the limited processing described here. Contact: [email protected].
2. Data we collect ourselves
- Consent choice. Your accept/decline choice for the ad-consent banner is stored in your browser (localStorage) so we don't re-ask every visit. It never leaves your device.
- Letters. If you write to the letters desk, we receive your email address and whatever you send — because you sent it. It is used only to read, verify, and (with your explicit permission) publish your letter, credited exactly as you choose. Letters are never added to any mailing list, never shared with third parties, and deleted on request.
- Standard web-server logs. Our host may keep short-lived technical logs (IP, user agent, URL) for security and abuse prevention, as virtually all hosting does. We do not use these to identify visitors.
That is the complete list. No analytics, no fingerprinting, no pixels of ours, on any page.
3. Data processed by Google advertising services (landing page only)
The four ad slots on our landing page — and no other page — are served by Google AdSense. When ads load, Google processes data as an independent service to select and serve them. Depending on your consent, this can include cookies and similar identifiers (see our cookie policy), IP address and coarse location, device and browser information, and — only if you consented to personalised ads — interest categories Google associates with your browser across the web. We never see this data; the ads render inside Google's own frames, which our code cannot read. 4. Consent and legal bases (EEA/UK)
In the EEA or UK, personalised advertising only runs after you consent (Google Consent Mode v2 defaults to “denied” until then). You can decline — only non-personalised or absent ads appear — or withdraw consent any time by clearing this site's data. Legal bases: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) for personalised advertising; our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) in operating a secure site and reading our own mail.
5. Your rights
Under the GDPR, UK GDPR and similar laws (including CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, and port personal data. Because we hold no personal data about visitors, most requests are satisfiable instantly — there is nothing on our side to retrieve or delete. If you've written to the letters desk, tell us and the correspondence is deleted. For data processed by Google, use your Google settings. You may also complain to your local supervisory authority.
6. Children
Tech Knows You is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly process children's data.
7. International transfers
Google may process data outside your country, including the United States, under safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
8. Changes
If we change this policy we will update this page and the date above; material changes are flagged on the landing page.
