Terms of use

The rules of the road, in plain English.

zero ads on this page   Last updated: 16 July 2026

1. Acceptance of these terms

By accessing or using Tech Knows You at techknowsyou.com (the “Site”), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please don't use the Site — it will cope.

2. What the Site is

The Site is an independent editorial publication — a blog — about the digital advertising economy. Its landing page displays third-party advertisements served by Google AdSense as a live exhibit, together with an illustrative counter based on published industry figures. Every other page is editorial content and carries no ad units. The Site is provided free of charge, without accounts.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Site only for its intended purpose. In particular, you agree not to:

4. Letters

Letters sent to the desk remain your words; by asking for publication you grant us a non-exclusive licence to publish the letter (edited for length and clarity) on the Site, credited as you choose. You are responsible for what you send — don't include other people's personal data. Handling is described in the privacy policy and on the letters page.

5. Third-party advertisements

Advertisements on the landing page are selected and served by Google's advertising systems, not by us. We do not see, choose, endorse, or warrant any advertised product or service. “The four ads the algorithm chose for you” is editorial framing, not a representation by any advertiser or by Google.

6. Intellectual property

The Site's original content — its essays, glossary, design, code, and branding — belongs to Tech Knows You. Quote it with attribution and a link; that's what writing is for. Advertisements remain the property of their owners. Google and AdSense are trademarks of Google LLC; Tech Knows You is an independent project not affiliated with Google.

7. Accuracy of figures

The counter and the figures in the essays are estimates presented in good faith, with methodology and sources published — see The $25,000 second. The counter assumes spend is spread evenly across the year, which it is not. Confirmed errors are corrected in place with a dated note. Nothing on the Site is financial, investment, or professional advice.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the algorithm's read on you will be flattering.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tech Knows You and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the Site — which is zero.

10. Changes and termination

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Site (or these terms) at any time. Updated terms take effect when posted here with a revised date.
